The Delegation of the European Union issues the following statement together with the diplomatic missions of the EU Member States, Norway and Switzerland to Lebanon 

أصدرت بعثة الاتحاد الأوروبي والبعثات الدبلوماسية للدول الأعضاء في الاتحاد الأوروبي والنرويج وسويسرا في لبنان البيان التالي:

The undersigned are gravely concerned about the current situation in Lebanon

We urge all stakeholders to respect the independence of the judiciary, refrain from all acts of interference and allow a fair and transparent judicial investigation into the Beirut port blast. The right to know and accountability are two pillars of rule of law.

We call on the Parliament to urgently elect a President who will unite the Lebanese people in the national interest, as a first step to restore the ability of the Lebanese state institutions to make decisions, both on the administrative and political level.

Holding the municipal elections according to schedule is essential to secure functioning state institutions.

We reiterate our call on all stakeholders to act responsibly for the full implementation of the prior actions agreed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and our readiness to support Lebanon on a path towards macro-economic and financial stability and growth, which requires structural reforms.

The 2023 state budget needs to address the devaluation of the salaries of civil servants, to allow them to continue their work, to the benefit of the Lebanese people.

يعرب الموقعون عن عميق القلق حيال الوضع الراهن في لبنان.

 نحثّ كل الأطراف المعنية على احترام استقلالية القضاء والامتناع عن جميع أعمال التدخل والسماح بتحقيق قضائي عادل وشفاف في انفجار مرفأ بيروت. فالحق في المعرفة والمساءلة ركيزتان من ركائز سيادة القانون.

 

ندعو مجلس النواب إلى الإسراع في انتخاب رئيس للجمهورية يوحّد الشعب اللبناني في إطار المصلحة الوطنية، كخطوة أولى لاستعادة قدرة مؤسسات الدولة اللبنانية على صنع القرار على المستويين الإداري والسياسي.

 

إنّ إجراء الانتخابات البلدية والاختيارية في موعدها أمر أساسي لتأمين حسن سير مؤسسات الدولة.

 

نجدّد دعوة كل الأطراف المعنية إلى التصرف بمسؤولية حتى تنفذ بالكامل الخطوات التي سبق أن تم الاتفاق عليها مع صندوق النقد الدولي. كما نعرب عن استعدادنا لدعم لبنان على مسار الاستقرار الاقتصادي الكلي والمالي الذي يتطلب إصلاحات بنيوية.

 

ويجب أن تعالج الموازنة العامة لعام ٢٠٢٣ مسألة انهيار قيمة رواتب موظفي القطاع العام لتمكينهم من متابعة عملهم لصالح الشعب اللبناني.
