In a virtual ceremony today, the Centre for Afghanistan, Middle East & Africa (CAMEA), Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) and Issam Fares Institute of Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI), American University of Beirut (AUB) signed a General Agreement for Cooperation. The Agreement was signed by Ms. Amina Khan, Director, CMEA and Dr. Joseph Bahout, Director IFI. Also present on the occasion were H.E. Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, Director General Institute of Strategic Studies and H.E. Mr. Salman Athar, Ambassador of Pakistan to Lebanon.

Welcoming the signing of the Cooperation Agreement, DG Amb. Sohail Mahmood stated that it will help establish a long-term institutional relationship between ISSI and IFI and enable the two sides to fruitfully collaborate in producing quality research and fostering policy dialogue on issues of common interest. He also highlighted the cordial relations between Pakistan and Lebanon and stated that the signing of this Agreement would further strengthen the existing bonds of friendship between the two countries by building institutional linkages.

Ambassador Salman Athar, in his remarks congratulated both sides on signing the Agreement and stated that this is the first agreement of its kind signed between the think-tanks of Lebanon and Pakistan. Both ISSI and IFI are among the most prestigious think-tanks of their respective countries and their collaboration will result in high quality research on important global as well as regional issues.

Dr. Joseph Bahout, Director of IFI, highlighted that the signing of the MoU marks a significant milestone in establishing cooperation between the two institutes. This collaboration will facilitate joint research initiatives that extend beyond the conventional scope of global politics, with a focus on addressing emerging issues and challenges in present-day international relations.

Established in 1973, the Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad is one of Pakistan’s premier thin-tanks. It is devoted to provide an in-depth understanding and objective analyses of regional and global strategic issues, affecting international peace and security.

في حفل افتراضي جرى اليوم، وقع مركز أفغانستان والشرق الأوسط وإفريقيا (CAMEA) ومعهد الدراسات الاستراتيجية في إسلام أباد (ISSI) ومعهد عصام فارس للسياسة العامة والشؤون الدولية (IFI) في الجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت (AUB) اتفاقية تعاون عامة. وقعت الاتفاقية كل من السيدة أمينة خان، مديرة مركز أفغانستان والشرق الأوسط وإفريقيا والدكتور جوزيف باحوط، مدير معهد عصام فارس للسياسة العامة والشؤون الدولية. كما حضر المناسبة سعادة السفير سهيل محمود مدير عام معهد الدراسات الاستراتيجية وسعادة السفير سلمان أطهر، سفير باكستان في لبنان.

ورحب المدير العام السفير سهيل محمود بتوقيع اتفاقية التعاون وقال إنه سيساعد في إقامة علاقة ومعهد الدراسات الاستراتيجية في إسلام أباد (ISSI) ومعهد عصام فارس للسياسة العامة والشؤون الدولية (IFI) وتمكين الجانبين من التعاون المثمر في إنتاج أبحاث عالية الجودة وتعزيز حوار السياسات حول القضايا ذات الاهتمام المشترك. كما سلط الضوء على العلاقات الودية بين باكستان ولبنان وذكر أن توقيع هذه الاتفاقية سيعزز أواصر الصداقة القائمة بين البلدين من خلال بناء روابط مؤسسية.

وفي كلمته، هنأ السفير سلمان أطهر الطرفين على توقيع الاتفاقية، وذكر أن هذه هي أول اتفاقية من نوعها يتم توقيعها بين المراكز البحثية في لبنان وباكستان. يعد كل من ومعهد الدراسات الاستراتيجية في إسلام أباد (ISSI) ومعهد عصام فارس للسياسة العامة والشؤون الدولية (IFI) من بين أكثر المؤسسات البحثية شهرة في البلدين وسيؤدي تعاونهما إلى إعداد أبحاث عالية الجودة حول القضايا العالمية والإقليمية الهامة.

وأكد الدكتور جوزيف باحوط، مدير معهد عصام فارس للسياسة العامة والشؤون الدولية (IFI)، أن توقيع مذكرة التفاهم يمثل علامة بارزة في إقامة التعاون بين المؤسستين، الذي سيسهل مبادرات البحث المشتركة التي تتجاوز النطاق التقليدي للسياسة العالمية، مع التركيز على معالجة القضايا والتحديات الناشئة في العلاقات الدولية الحالية.

تأسس معهد الدراسات الاستراتيجية في إسلام أباد عام 1973، وهو أحد أبرز الخزانات الباكستانية. ويهدف إلى توفير فهم متعمق وتحليلات موضوعية للقضايا الاستراتيجية الإقليمية والعالمية، التي تؤثر على السلم والأمن الدوليين.
