السفير البريطاني يزور مشاريع ممولة من المملكة المتحدة في مدينة صيدا ويدشّن سوق السمك

British Ambassador visits UK funded projects in Saida, inaugurates Fish Market

افتتح السفير البريطاني في لبنان هايمش كاول سوق السمك في صيدا، الذي تمت اعادة تأهليه مؤخّراً.

بدعمه أكثر من 450 صياداً محليّاً وعائلاتهم ومئات المستفيدين من مجتمعات محلية في صيدا وضواحيها، يهدف هذا المشروع التحويلي الى تنشيط قطاع صيد الأسماك في المدينة من خلال تحديث السوق وتوفير مرافق ومعدات جديدة للصيادين المحليين.

 

وقد موّلته المملكة المتحدة وتم تنفيذه بالشراكة مع برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي ووزارة الشؤون الاجتماعية ووزارة الأشغال العامة والنقل وبلدية صيدا في إطار دعم المجتمعات المضيفة في لبنان التابع لبرنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي.

 

كما حضر الافتتاح كل من ميلاني هاونشتاين ممثلة برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي المقيمة في لبنان والدكتور هكتور حجار وزير الشؤون الاجتماعية و السيد محمد نحله ممثلا وزير الأشغال العامة والنقل والسيد محمد السعودي رئيس بلدية صيدا والنائب الدكتور عبد الرحمن البزري والسيدة بهية الحريري والسيد نزيه سنبل نقيب الصيادين. كما التقى عدد من صيادي الأسماك المحليين حيث أكد على استمرار دعم المملكة المتحدة للناس في أنحاء البلاد جميعها.

 

وزار السفير كاول كورنيش صيدا الذي تم إحياؤه بتمويل من المملكة المتحدة واطلع على كيفية مساهمة إضاءة ألواح الطاقة الشمسية على طول 7 كيلومترات من ساحل المدينة في توفير بيئة أكثر أماناً للسكان المحليين والبائعين والسيّاح.

 

التقى بعدها السفير كاول كل من النائب الدكتورعبد الرحمن البزري والنائب أسامة سعد للبحث في التحديات التي تواجهها مدينة صيدا والفرص لتطويرها.

 

وفي ختام زيارته، قال السفير كاول:

“صيدا مدينة عريقة متجذّرة في التاريخ الفينيقي تتمتع بمواقع أثرية وتراثية رائعة.

تدعم المملكة المتحدة لبنان خلال التحديات الصعبة التي يواجهها وستواصل في الحثّ للمضي قدماً بالإصلاحات والتغييرات اللازمة لضمان مستقبل أفضل للشعب اللبناني“.

 

 

British Ambassador visits UK funded projects in Saida, inaugurates Fish Market

 

 

The British Ambassador to Lebanon, Hamish Cowell, inaugurated the newly rebuilt Fish Market in Saida.

 

This transformative project aims to revitalise Saida’s fishing sector by modernising the market and providing new facilities and equipment for local fishermen. It is supporting more than 450 local fishermen, as well as their families and hundreds of beneficiaries across local communities in and around Saida.

 

The project was funded by the United Kingdom and implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, and the Saida Municipality, within the framework of UNDP’s Lebanon Host Communities Support Project (LHSP).

 

Also present were Ms. Melanie Hauenstein, UNDP’s Resident Representative in Lebanon, Dr Hector Hajjar, Minister of Social Affairs, Mr Mohamad Nahle, representing the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr Mohamad Seoudi, Mayor of Saida Municipality, Dr Abdelrahman El-Bizri MP, Mrs Bahiya Hariri and Mr Nazih Sinbol, Head of Saida Fishermen Syndicate. He also met members of the local fishing community and underlined the UK’s continued support to people across Lebanon.

     

On the revived Saida corniche, Ambassador Cowell also visited the UK funded LHSP project of solar-powered lighting along 7Km of the city’s coast and heard how this has helped make the area safer and more accessible to local residents, small vendors, and tourists.  

 

Ambassador Cowell met later with Dr Abdel Rahman El Bizri MP and Ousama Saad MP to discuss the challenges facing Saida and the opportunities for its development.  

 

 

At the end of his visit, Ambassador Cowell said:  

 

“Saida is a city steeped in Phoenician history with wonderful archaeological and heritage sites.

  

I am proud to see the transformational impact that UK-funded projects in Saida are having on Lebanese livelihoods.

 

The UK is supporting Lebanon in its current challenging circumstances and will continue to encourage the reforms and changes needed to ensure a better future for the Lebanese people
