UNIFIL’s Head of Mission and Force Commander, Major General Stefano Del Col, today welcomed Lebanon’s new Minister of National Defence, Maurice Sleem, to the peacekeeping mission’s headquarters in Naqoura, South Lebanon

In his remarks, Major General Del Col announced a donation of 500 kg of medicines to the LAF, in accordance with support requested for the LAF in operative paragraph 11 of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2591

“The current economic situation has created hardship, and the LAF has not been spared,” said Major General Del Col. “That’s why the Council, with Resolution 2591, requested UNIFIL to take ‘temporary and special measures’ to support the LAF with essential items like medicine, fuel, food, and logistics. We are pleased to support the LAF, just as the LAF supports us, standing side by side, in our work here in south Lebanon

“Today, I’m very glad to announce that the LAF will have access to vital medical supplies from UNIFIL and essential medications,” he said. “These medications have been identified as the most needed, and we are grateful that they will be used to provide medical care for LAF soldiers, as well as their families

UNIFIL’s top official expressed his appreciation for the strong partnership UNIFIL and the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) share. “I have reiterated to the Minister that the Lebanese Armed Forces are UNIFIL’s strategic partners,” he said. “The key word there is ‘partnership.’ We work closely with them each and every day and night, conducting our joint activities, to accomplish our mandate and work to secure peace and stability here in South Lebanon ”

The UNIFIL chief underscored the importance of finding other areas together where UNIFIL can provide support to the LAF

“A strong LAF means we can continue our work and even intensify our efforts to maintain stability along the Blue Line and throughout our area of operations,” he said. “A strong LAF means we can create the space needed towards political and diplomatic solutions, and one day, inshallah, a permanent ceasefire

The Minister later received a briefing on the mission’s activities and a helicopter tour of the Blue Line

I warmly welcome His Excellency Minister Sleem to Naqoura today, where he will see the work we are doing jointly with LAF and visit the Blue Line. I have reiterated to the Minister that the Lebanese Armed Forces are UNIFIL’s strategic partners. The key word there is “partnership.” We work closely with them each and every day and night, conducting our joint activities, to accomplish our mandate and work to secure peace and stability here in South Lebanon

The current economic situation has created hardship, and the LAF has not been spared. We know that the armed forces as an institution, and individual soldiers themselves, are not immune to the challenges facing the country. The United Nations Security Council, when it adopted Resolution 2591 in August and renewed UNIFIL’s mandate, appreciated this. That’s why the Council, with Resolution 2591, requested UNIFIL to take “temporary and special measures” to support the LAF with essential items like medicine, fuel, food, and logistics. We are pleased to support the LAF, just as the LAF supports us, standing side by side, in our work here in south Lebanon.

Today, I’m very glad to announce that the LAF will have access to vital medical supplies from UNIFIL, including antibiotics, pain relievers, and other essential medications. These medications have been identified as the most needed, and we are grateful that they will be used to provide medical care for LAF soldiers, as well as their families.

As partners, UNIFIL and the LAF are both stronger together. This is why our support is so important, and why we are happy to provide it. In doing so, we aim to reinforce LAF’s critical capabilities required for the high pace of joint activities with UNIFIL. I sincerely hope that together we can find other areas where UNIFIL can provide support to the LAF in the very near future. A strong LAF means we can continue our work and even intensify our efforts to maintain stability along the Blue Line and throughout our area of operations. وزير الدفاع اللبناني يزور اليونيفيل

استقبل اليوم رئيس بعثة اليونيفيل وقائدها العام اللواء ستيفانو ديل كول وزير الدفاع الوطني اللبناني موريس سليم في المقر الرئيسي لبعثة حفظ السلام في الناقورة بجنوب لبنان.

في كلمة له، أعلن اللواء ديل كول عن التبرع بـ 500 كيلوغرام من الأدوية للجيش اللبناني، وفقًا للدعم المطلوب للجيش اللبناني في الفقرة 11 من قرار مجلس الأمن التابع للأمم المتحدة رقم 2591.

وفي هذا الصدد، قال اللواء ديل كول: “لقد خلق الوضع الاقتصادي الحالي مصاعب لم تسلم القوات المسلحة اللبنانية منها”. وأضاف: “لهذا السبب، طلب مجلس الأمن الدولي من اليونيفيل، من خلال القرار رقم 2591، اتخاذ ‘تدابير مؤقتة وخاصة’ لدعم القوات المسلحة اللبنانية بالأمور الضرورية كالأدوية والوقود والطعام والخدمات اللوجستية. يسعدنا أن ندعم الجيش اللبناني، الذي يدعمنا بالمثل، ونقف جنبًا إلى جنب، في عملنا هنا في جنوب لبنان “.

وأشار: “اليوم، يسعدني جدًا أن أعلن أن القوات المسلحة اللبنانية ستحصل على الإمدادات الطبية الحيوية من اليونيفيل، بما في ذلك المضادات الحيوية ومسكنات الآلام والأدوية الأساسية الأخرى. لقد تم تحديد هذه الأدوية كونها الأكثر طلباً والحاحاً، ومن دواعي امتناننا أن يتم استخدام تلك الامدادات الطبية لتوفير الرعاية الطبية لجنود القوات المسلحة اللبنانية، وكذلك لعائلاتهم“.

وعبّر مسؤول اليونيفيل عن تقديره للشراكة القوية بين اليونيفيل والجيش اللبناني. وقال: “لقد كررت للوزير سليم أن القوات المسلحة اللبنانية شريك استراتيجي لليونيفيل”، مضيفاً “الكلمة الأساسية هنا هي ‘الشراكة’ ونحن نعمل معهم عن كثب ليلاً نهاراً بشكل يومي، ونقوم بأنشطتنا المشتركة، لإنجاز تفويضنا والعمل على تأمين السلام والاستقرار هنا في جنوب لبنان“.

وشدد قائد اليونيفيل على أهمية إيجاد اماكن أخرى معًا حيث يمكن لليونيفيل تقديم الدعم للقوات المسلحة اللبنانية.

“وجود قوات مسلحة  لبنانية قوية يعني أنه يمكننا مواصلة عملنا وحتى تكثيف جهودنا للحفاظ على الاستقرار على طول الخط الأزرق وفي جميع أنحاء منطقة عملياتنا. ويعني أيضا أنه يمكننا خلق المساحة اللازمة نحو الحلول السياسية والدبلوماسية، ويومًا ما، إنشاالله، لوقف دائم لإطلاق النار.”

واستمع الوزير في وقت لاحق لشرح عن أنشطة البعثة وقام بجولة على متن مروحية  فوق الخط الأزرق.

أرحب بمعالي الوزير موريس سليم ترحيبا حارا في الناقورة، حيث سيطلع على العمل الذي نقوم به بمشاركة القوات المسلحة اللبنانية وسوف يقوم أيضاً بزيارة الخط الأزرق. لقد كررت لمعالي الوزير أن الجيش اللبناني هو الشريك الإستراتيجي لليونيفيل والكلمة الأساسية هنا هي “الشراكة”. فنحن نعمل عن كثب مع الجيش، كل يوم وكل ليلة، حيث نقوم بتنفيذ أنشطتنا المشتركة لإنجاز ولايتنا والعمل على تأمين السلام والاستقرار هنا في جنوب لبنان.

لقد خلق الوضع الاقتصادي الحالي مصاعباً لم يسلم منها الجيش اللبناني، ونحن نعلم أن مؤسسة القوات المسلحة كما الجنود أنفسهم، ليسوا بمنأى عن التحديات التي تواجه البلاد.

وعليه، فقد أعرب مجلس الأمن التابع للأمم المتحدة عن تقديره لهذا الأمر حين تبنى القرار رقم 2591 عندما تم تجديد ولاية اليونيفيل في شهر آب. وكان أن طلب المجلس من خلال هذا القرار أن تقوم اليونيفيل باتخاذ “تدابير مؤقتة وخاصة” لدعم القوات المسلحة اللبنانية بالمواد الأساسية مثل الأدوية والوقود والغذاء والخدمات اللوجستية.

يسعدنا أن ندعم الجيش اللبناني مثلما يدعمنا الجيش اللبناني، ونحن نقف جنبًا إلى جنب خلال عملنا هنا في جنوب لبنان.
